We’ve quickly realized that we should not socially distance during the COVID-19 pandemic.  It’s physical distancing that is required.  During a time of uncertainty, the entire world is figuring out what the new normal is, including our caller.  The question we were asked is how you stay connected during physical distancing.  We don’t know when restrictions will be lifted.  One thing we do know is that as we continue to face the unknown and navigate change, we are better together.

Here is a quick summary of tips that we discuss:

  • Use technology especially video to see your loved ones
  • Platform examples: Zoom, Facebook Messenger, FaceTime, Duo, WhatsApp, Marco Polo
  • Join virtual communities (e.g., on Facebook) to stay informed and connected
  • Make new connections.  Be opportunistic.  Learn from and teach others.
  • Create a group message thread with close family and/or friends
  • Send quick messages that inspire hope or laughter
  • Have check-ins with loved ones.  Process feelings, thoughts, and share updates.
  • Plan virtual events (happy hour, game night, dinner, movie date, worship, workouts)
  • Volunteer together.  Find ways to contribute (following CDC guidelines).
  • Channel your creative energy!  This is a great time to try new things together.
